Lead Poisoning..A reply to Deccan Chronicle article

This is the reaction to the published news article today in deccan Chronicle chennai edition, about how ayurvedic medicines in the garb of herbal medicines are causing lead poison in the gullible patients!This is highly misleading and mallicious.
Hailing from an authentic ayurveda family and a staunch believer and practicing consultant of Ayurveda for the last eighteen years,It pains me a lot to see that our Ancient Science is tarnished like this.
The medicines mentioned in this article like Lakshmivilasa rsas (Naradiya) or yogarajaguggulu, by default don’t contain Lead.Mahayogaraja guggulu, indeed contains nagabhasma, which is entirely different from lead people are talking about.
This Lead is not the same Naga Bhasma, mentioned in Ayurveda.The processes described in Ayurvedic texts convert the inorganic metallic lead to a biofriendly medicine,along with improving its thereuputic effect and index.This Naga Bhasma undergoes many physio chemici biologico pharmocological changes and the resultant product is entirely the different from the lead, media is crying hoarse about.
We have spurious drug in any system which are the outcome of substandard drug/Preparation.. So these herbal preparation should be considered as an aberration than allow the results to reflect on the sanctity of a system of medicine
If the JAMA is calling them as ayurvedic drug then all spurious drugs should be called as official drugs of that system.
If a medicine is found to contain the lead more than the allowed measure,Ban the company which makes such drug.Dont condemn the medicine.These formulas are provided in 5000 yr old scriptures,any company can use them for their manufacturing.Lot of lead poisoning comes from defective collective measures of the samples,purifying and processing methods.
Before the media publishes such sensitive news about the system, it should have consulted an expert in Ayurveda.or do they think Ayurveda is an area where they can report anything without actually involving the expert?
It is very true that media creates awareness .Let that be a true awareness..

In fact, we prescribe Naga bhasma(Calx of Lead) is prescribed along with silajath bhasma, to check the complications of Diabetes..like chronic kidney disease.:)

Being a staunch Ayurvedic Practitioner and a believer, It pains my heart to see How Ayurveda is bottled and marketed Globally..Whether it is an extract added Neutraceutical declaring no side effects gimmicks or the the semi clad woman getting shirodhara besides a lake or a Shastika pinda sweda along the palm trees of the beach.I wonder why a normal looking woman are not even considered for an Ayurvedic photo session.
It is true that Ayurveda's very Basic principle is "Swasthasya Swaasthya Rakshanam Aathurasya vikara prashamanam"..Positive Health comes first than a Curative health
But Any Purvakarma (Positive Health Programs like massage)has some Do's and Don'ts regarding therapies done in the patients..It just cant be decided by an unskilled person in a reception counter of a star Hotel.It cannot be done on all patients,irrespective of age or other health conditions.A Bad remark spread faster than a genuine service.
Ayurvedic science is knowledge and evidence based.Let us practice it, the Authentic way.
In our insecurity to gain recognition among our western peers and colleagues,let us not do a mixopathy treatment.
let us join together to spread the awareness about Ayurveda..Let us tell the world that Ayurveda is "Not For Sale"
